- The happy couple.
Two frogs were recently married in Udupi City in a ceremony that was supposed to appease the rain gods after the monsoon had failed. Now that the monsoon has arrived and claimed numerous lives people are calling for the frog couples divorce to bring an end to the rain. The full story can be found here at Mangalorean.com.
Some people felt that both bride and bridegroom seems to be unhappy the way in which marriage was conducted, where only 50 people attended the ceremony. … researchers argue that substantial die-offs of amphibians and other plant and animal species add up to a new mass extinction facing the planet.

The main cause of this mass death is a fungus causing the disease chytridiomycosis, global warming and increased pollution. Read the full article at UC Berkeley News.

- Fowler’s Toad on a log
The Fowler’s toad call sounds like a human shriek. “People have actually called police departments thinking they were hearing a baby screaming,” said J.D. Kleopfer, amphibian specialist for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
Here is a link to an informative article about the Fowler’s toad in the Frederickburg area found on Frederickburg.com. The audio link on the site doesn’t seem to be working but the Fowler’s toads cry can be found here on the Learning NC website or you can click here to download it.
Do you think it sounds like a human scream? Personally I find it very eerie to listen to.
